I have a pair of 15″ Zildjian hats that are 45 years old. The top cymbal has become slightly keyholed.
At last nights gig I accidentally placed the bottom cymbal on the top and during the soundcheck I realised that the hats sound great and the closed “chick” sound was much better than usual.

Anyone else ever done this ? And, is it ok to have the heavier cymbal on top ?

    Whatever sounds good IS good!
I sometimes play with heavy/bottom on top, seems to give more definition.

Thanks Captain. I agree. They are the only hats I’ve ever played and it was nice to have a slightly brighter sound.
I was contemplating having a grommet fitted to the top cymbal but decided against it.
They were my 10th birthday present and I don’t want to mess with them.
I was just looking for some advice just to make sure it not a bad thing to do.
